Summer Recap

Thank God for an amazing summer! We have so much to be thankful for and celebrate from these last few months! God has been good!

Keep scrolling to see some of what happened this summer.

Summer Teaching

We were blessed with a wide variety of teaching through our two summer series. Bob Osborne opened our summer teaching through our “Properly Formed” series.

Then for the second summer in a row we journeyed through the book of Acts with guest teachers Nikayla Reize and A.J. Jansen and our very own Christin Woods, Tory Hovdestad and Christine Woods. You can view all teaching on our YouTube channel plus extra content.

Community Events

Pancake Breakfast

Our first big meal was a wonderful pancake breakfast. We had over 40 volunteers help out that morning: flipping pancakes, serving food, cleaning up and so much more. We are so thankful for each one and it was such a blessing for our community.

Westside BBQ

In July we had our BBQ with hotdogs, chips and s’mores. It was great to be in community once again and it was so encouraging seeing all the new faces that came.

Westside Potluck

To finish off the summer we had our first big potluck with a wide variety of delicious foods. We are going to do this again because the food our community brought was so delicious!

Pursuing Wholeness

WKC Gardens:

Throughout the summer we saw the start and progression of our WKC garden. We were blessed with a rainy summer, and many amazing watering volunteers who kept our garden flourishing! The potatoes busted out of their enclosures so they were set aside. The beets and onions also did great! The carrots struggled to fully germinate but eventually they grew.

We want to say a big thank you to Savanah Stewart for her leadership on the project. It has been such a blessing for our community.

How it started

How it’s going

Food Drive:

For the month of June we collected over 322.8lbs of non perishable items and 280lbs of apples! That means over 602lbs of non perishable food and supplies went to the Hatch in Calgary! All of this done to seek food security for our local community.

We want to send a big thank you to Darcia Hansen for all the amazing work she did in organizing and educating us on food security.

Summer Interns

We want to thank Mikayla Chapman and Charlize Dozois who helped us out this summer doing amazing work! Mikayla focused primally on working with the youth while Char helped out with our chilrden’s ministry. These two were such a joy to be around and brought so much energy on a Sunday morning and during the week. Thankfully they will be sticking around Westside so make sure to say hello and thank them.

Next Gen

The Platform: Young Adults

The young adults took a break from their regular Thursday night rhythms but remained busy with other fun activities. The Platform went to Activate, they went bowling, they had a spike ball tourney, and had regular hang outs throughout the summer. The last day of summer we got some nice Polaroid photos as well.

Illuminate Youth

The youth also had a busy summer with activities ranging from downhill go karting, water nights, soap car box nights and much more.

Breaking Bread and Cooking Class with Dream Centre

Breaking Bread continued through the year with amazing turnouts and Christin began a cooking class with the women from the Dream Centre.

See your in the Fall!
