Plot Twist Part 1
He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”
They stood still, their faces downcast.  One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”
“What things?” he asked.
[Luke 24:17-19]

We think we know our stories.  But do we?  We tell of all that has happened to us, but as believers we can leave out the one big critical piece.

This series takes its cue from the Emmaus road story (Luke 24:13-24), when the risen Jesus joined two of his friends as they journeyed back to their home village.  All this took place on Resurrection Day, and yet the new reality that had just dawned had not yet been grasped by the two travelers.  And so the way they tell the story is not the way Jesus tells the story.  The two friends of Jesus really don’t know the story — not his, not theirs, not yet.

This series is about telling our stories in the light of God’s resurrection reality.  It’s about telling new and different stories, which begin with a new interpretive key.  It’s about finding our memories, and our identities, reshaped by resurrection.

series Scripture reading: take time to become familiar with the Emmaus road story (Luke 24:13-24); along with this, you might consider reading Colossians and Ephesians, which help us see the ways our new resurrection reality is worked out.
