Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees follows the Carver model of Policy Governance to fulfill WKC’s vision “To encounter and embody the surprising grace of Jesus.”. The following links provide information on the role of the Board, and the process and criteria for Trustee appointment.

The Role of WKC’s Board of Trustees: Governing Values and Styles
The Board shall govern with an emphasis on (a) biblically-based integrity and truthfulness in all methods and practices, (b) visionary leadership rather than administrative detail, (c) clear distinction of Board and Senior Pastors roles, (d) collective rather than individual decisions, (e) future rather than past or present, and (f) pro-activity rather than reactivity.

Accordingly, the Board is accountable to Jesus Christ, who is the Head of the Church, and to Westside King’s Church community. The Board affirms Westside King’s Church’s Creed.

The Responsibilities of Individual Board of Trustee Members
The Board expects positive and active participation of its individual members to ensure that it fulfills its moral and legal obligations.

Accordingly, individual Board members will prepare for Board and committee meetings and will participate productively in discussions, always within the boundaries of discipline established by the Board. Each member will contribute his or her own knowledge, skills and expertise to the Board’s efforts to fulfill its responsibilities. Annual attendance at 75% of scheduled Board meetings is required and it is expected that Board members will be punctual. Individual Board members must demonstrate their support for WKC by making every effort to satisfy the initial criteria used in appointing Board members.

WKC Board of Trustees Composition and Succession Planning
Members of the Board of Trustees are appointed by the whole board and will represent the diversity of the WKC stakeholders.

Accordingly, the Board will maintain a size of 7 – 12 voting members. Members may serve for three consecutive two year terms, with possible extensions in special circumstances at the invitation of the Governance Committee. Members may be eligible for additional terms after a minimum two-year break. Board Member feedback will be sought through general board evaluations annually. The Board Chair will discuss results of the general board evaluations at the June board meeting and invite members to initiate contact with the Chair if they would like a discussion on an individual basis. If an individual member is at the end of a two year term, the Board Chair or Vice Chair will initiate a conversation with those members to assess future involvement. This discussion will include a review of individual attendance, contribution, suitability and areas of interest.

The Process and Criteria for Appointment to the Board of Trustees
